Eugene Lewis Hutchins

Eugene Lewis Hutchins, 80, of Jacksonville, FL, died November 23, 2011 after a long illness.
He was born in Austin, MN. Later, he moved to Kalamazoo, MI and graduated from the Western Michigan University with a BA degree in Business Administration. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954 and was stationed in Aschaffenburg, Germany where he served in the rank of SP2. He married his fiancée, Sue Cardinale in Germany in 1955. In 1956 he finished army service and returned to Michigan. In 1957 Eugene and Sue moved to New Haven, CT. In 1962 he relocated with his wife and two children to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. There he set up a construction business which served the territory for 43 years. In 1986 he survived a seaplane crash with the loss of one leg and one eye but continued in construction until his retirement in 2004. In 2004, he moved to Jacksonville, FL.
Eugene is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sue Hutchins; two sisters, Connie Wood of Kalamazoo, MI and Suzanne Deyo of Delton, MI; three sons, Thomas of Sollebrunn, Sweden, Steven of Jacksonville, FL , Eric of Houston, TX; four grandsons, eight granddaughters, and three great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2011 in Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin with a Graveside Service following at 11:30 a.m. in Mandarin Cemetery with Pastor Dan Davis as Officiant.
